At Telstra’s Sydney head office, 400 George Street, the workplace was transformed into a highly connected and collaborative environment. Asentis contributed a key element of this strategy: an internal staircase linking levels 3 to 5, designed as both a functional connector and a striking architectural feature that encourages interaction across the building.
The staircase features a refined material palette of timber handrails, metal-slatted balustrades, and cork treads, complementing the existing glass-balustrade staircase. Positioned beside expansive exterior glazing, it sits within a light-filled workspace, creating an inviting, tactile experience that brings warmth and clarity while forming a strong visual anchor. Installation required careful planning, as Level 2 remained occupied during construction. The team introduced a high-level beam to secure stair sections without temporary props, scheduled noisy and non-noisy works strategically, and ensured extra air filtration during welding; minimising disruption while keeping the project on track.
The broader refurbishment consolidated Telstra’s footprint from 28,000 sqm to 9,000 sqm, with each level playing a distinct role in the workplace strategy. Level 4 serves as the social and collaborative heart, Level 5 houses the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, and Level 3 contains the main boardroom. Together, the workplace and staircase design enhance connection, movement, and culture across the organisation.
