Gilbert & Tobin is a tier one Australian law firm renowned for providing innovative legal solutions across corporate, infrastructure, government, and technology sectors. With a strong presence nationally and internationally, the firm is recognised for its progressive approach and commitment to both commercial excellence and pro bono leadership. Their Melbourne office, located at the landmark 101 Collins Street, reflects this forward-thinking ethos through a workplace designed to foster openness, agility, and collaboration.
To bring this vision to life, Woods Bagot created an open plan design enriched with natural elements, maximising city views and supporting staff wellbeing. Micro-communities were established through a diversity of work settings, while Asentis delivered the interconnecting staircases that anchor the workspace. More than circulation, the stairs serve as social hubs—encouraging team movement, client interaction, and an organic flow of collaboration across levels.
Complementing the neutral palette and biophilic design, the feature stairs are both sculptural and functional. Timber treads provide warmth against the glazed balustrades, while the crisp white soffit and stringers introduce a contemporary edge. A garden planter, inspired by the Australian landscape, grounds the design and enhances the connection to nature. Together, these elements create a workplace that balances professionalism with approachability, underscoring Gilbert & Tobin’s culture of connection and innovation.
