A refined exercise in precision, materiality, and global coordination, this Sydney flagship draws on Bottega Veneta’s connection to the Veneto region, translating an international design vision into a locally delivered environment defined by craft and restraint.
Bottega Veneta’s Sydney flagship is a three-level retail environment that brings the brand’s global design language into a highly resolved local context. Delivered in collaboration with Construction By Design, the project required precise coordination to translate an international architectural vision into a compliant and buildable outcome, balancing imported materials with Australian construction requirements.
The store was conceived to reflect Bottega Veneta’s connection to the Veneto region, expressed through a refined material palette and a strong emphasis on craftsmanship. Locally sourced solid timber is paired with imported finishes, including walnut veneer to the stair and soffit linings, creating a considered balance between global intent and local execution. Early-stage coordination was critical, with services, setouts, and structural interfaces resolved well in advance to align with international fabrication timelines.
3D scanning was used to accurately capture existing conditions, enabling new joinery elements to be precisely overlaid onto the retained steel stair structure. This allowed the stair to be reimagined as a timber-clad architectural feature, supported by bespoke joinery developed to align seamlessly with imported materials. At its centre, the stair becomes a sculptural focal point, defined by walnut veneer cladding and solid timber handrail cappings formed into a continuous radius. It sits in dialogue with the wider interior, complementing the hand-laid terrazzo flooring, woven leather furnishings, and sculptural joinery throughout the store, resulting in a cohesive and highly resolved retail environment grounded in materiality and craft.
