The restoration of the iconic Trust Building revitalised its historic charm, featuring a breathtaking spiral staircase, unique balustrade inspired by nature, and meticulous architectural metalwork that honoured its heritage while introducing exquisite new elements.

The Trust Building at 155 King St has long been a defining landmark of Sydney's skyline. Erected over a century ago and now heritage-listed, it was one of the city’s pioneering skyscrapers. Through the years, it has been home to a variety of businesses, including newspapers, insurance brokers, hotels, banks, and jewellers. However, a series of ill-conceived renovations have often obscured the building's original charm.

In June 2020, a renowned luxury retailer invested in revitalising the site, restoring it to its timeless elegance while introducing striking new features that reflect the highest standards of craftsmanship. As part of this prestigious restoration, Asentis had the privilege of collaborating with Parisian architects RDAI. Our task was to interpret their vision for a breathtaking spiral staircase, a sculptural steel masterpiece that would anchor the space. Every detail was painstakingly crafted and installed on-site, before being handed over to skilled finishing trades. The balustrade was expertly constructed by boat builders, whose craftsmanship was essential to the staircase’s unique character.

Beyond the staircase, Asentis also contributed a range of architectural metalwork throughout the building, including the front entry doors and decorative grilles. We are honoured to have played a central role in this heritage renovation, helping to preserve and enhance The Trust Building's legacy while shaping its future for generations to come.
