Commonwealth Tenancy, Brisbane

Commercial , Government
Blending natural inspiration with architectural precision, this staircase brings the calm strength of Australian flora into the heart of this government workplace.

Delivered in partnership with Cox Architecture and Morris Property Group, this government project for the Commonwealth Tenancy at the edge of Brisbane’s CBD centres on the theme of growth and connection. Asentis was engaged to deliver a sculptural stair solution that not only met complex functional requirements but also enhanced the architectural intent of the workplace environment.

Inspired by the textures and tones of native flora, the stair features a subtle, natural colour palette that threads across 13 floors. The vertical circulation includes three double-height stairs, two single flights, and a striking 5.5-metre helical stair—each element contributing to an intuitive and uplifting flow through the building.

Asentis was involved early in the process, developing a full-scale prototype to help articulate and refine the design intent. This approach enabled close collaboration with the project team and ensured precise execution. The result showcases a sculptural “drum” form with a 12mm steel balustrade, delivering a bold yet seamless visual feature with the structural strength to match.
