The Commonwealth Tenancy fit-out brought together Cox Architecture, Morris Property Group, and Asentis to create a striking staircase that exemplifies modern architectural excellence. Situated on the outskirts of Brisbane’s CBD, this staircase is more than just a design feature—it redefines the intersection of aesthetics and functionality. Asentis’s dedication to an exceptional client experience was evident in their hands-on approach, including the development of a full-scale prototype before fabrication. This interactive process ensured the client’s vision was fully realised, reinforcing Asentis’s commitment to precision and innovation.
Inspired by Australian native flora, the staircase’s subtle colour palette symbolises growth and aligns with the workplace’s overarching design concept. Spanning 13 floors within a 26-storey building, the structure features three double staircases, two single stairs, and a striking 5.5-meter diameter helical stair at its core. Through close collaboration, the project team meticulously crafted a staircase that merges form and purpose, meeting the highest standards of contemporary architecture.
Navigating tight deadlines and limited access, Asentis employed innovative fabrication and installation techniques, including modular prepared sections and a detailed propping set-out to facilitate onsite assembly. Despite these challenges, the project was completed ahead of schedule, delivering a flawless result. A standout feature is the staircase’s distinctive "drum" design, with a sleek 12mm steel void balustrade that enhances both aesthetics and structural integrity. The seamless integration of design and engineering underscores the expertise and commitment of all teams involved.
