Brookfield is a global alternative asset manager that invests in long-life, high-quality assets and businesses across more than 30 countries. In Australia, Brookfield’s diverse portfolio spans real estate, infrastructure, and private equity in key cities.
Located in the heart of Sydney’s central business district at Brookfield Place, the new Australian headquarters for Brookfield encompasses 6,626 square meters across three levels. Designed by the multi-award-winning architect Bates Smart and constructed by global construction leader Multiplex, the workspace reflects the company’s strong brand values. With a restrained material palette of white, polished stainless steel, marble, and deep ochres, the design takes inspiration from modernist ideas of geometry and form. The interior reveals a gallery-like space that showcases Brookfield’s diverse global portfolio and commitment to quality.
Central to this design is a dramatic full-turn spiral staircase, connecting the three levels of the office. Rising over 7 meters in height with a diameter of more than 5 meters, this sculpture-like architectural feature is a masterpiece of design and engineering. Fabricated in steel plate and finished with artisan-quality polished plaster, the staircase greets staff and visitors alike with an imposing yet minimalist elegance. Its presence not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the space but also serves as a functional centrepiece, reinforcing the themes of connectivity and modernity.
Asentis was engaged early in the project’s design development phase, collaborating closely with Bates Smart and other stakeholders to ensure the staircase’s seamless integration into the overall vision. Through extensive workshops and iterative planning, Asentis contributed tailored solutions that addressed the complex requirements of this ambitious feature. This early engagement was pivotal to achieving the staircase’s flawless execution and alignment with the broader design intent.
