Ashurst, Melbourne

Commercial , Legal
The exemplary curved staircase in the Ashurst Melbourne office maximises an agile, sustainable, and collaborative workplace experience.

Ashurst, a prominent multinational law firm operating across 15 countries, has been part of the Australian legal and business landscape since 1841. Their relocation to 80 Collins Street, at the renowned ‘Paris End’ of Collins Street, underscores their connection to Melbourne's market. This central location, surrounded by top-tier companies and first-class facilities, represents a milestone in supporting their national and global clients.

Spanning three levels, the workplace—designed by multi-award-winning architect Bates Smart—embodies Ashurst’s vision of agility, sustainability, and collaboration. The design seamlessly integrates natural materials, soft forms, light, and transparency while maintaining a strong connection to the site context. It features a harmonious mix of traditional meeting rooms, open collaborative zones, and focused workspaces, offering a physical representation of the Ashurst brand.

At the heart of the office, a striking central staircase, featuring a double-height curved design and open void, elegantly links the entire workplace. Designed and constructed by Asentis, this architectural centrepiece is crafted from steel plates, seamlessly welded together, and softened by premium joinery linings and timber handrails. Positioned around this space are key staff amenities, fostering opportunities for socialisation and collaboration. The staircase serves as both a visual statement and a focal point, reinforcing cohesion throughout the workplace.
